GSD running

Hey everyone!! I’m finally back!! I know I wasn’t posting since ages, but yea I’m finally back with a new series; The Breeds – DOG! Actually, I’ve decided – yea only NOW- to run up this new series, The Breeds. It will have a few sub-series? yea, sub-series in which, over a few animals that I know, the few breeds that I know, will be explained a little in-depth, OPENLY SUBJECT-TO-CORRECTION. So I am starting it out with dogs, but don’t worry, I will be bringing in other animals soon! 🙂

Okay, so the first breed I’ve chosen for this sub-series is the German Shepherd. The German Shepherd is unlike its name, not ONLY a shepherd. The German Shepherd, actually, is a German working dog, not bred specifically for herding. It is a large breed dog, and I’ll add it again, a large breed working dog.

Okay, problems we can face with this breed NOWADAYS (from both experience and theory):

The German Shepherd has been inbred a lot, and I don’t know how true this is, but a few websites state that they have been inbred a lot to produce “star pieces”. Let me explain that a little bit up here. Example(note, none of these exist in my knowledge, i’m just givin’ a example. names are by me :D): Kud German Shepherd Stud had a prize winning sire, Jake. Then they also had a prize winning dam, Kira, however they are brother and sister. Kud waits, breeding multiple other dogs in hopes to get a puppy like Kira and Jake. They fail, even in producing a similar product. Finally, they decide that it is useless trying more to produce a piece to breed with either of them. They then just breed Jake and Kira, the siblings. The pups, were as a result quite similar to the parents. Inbreeding, stage 1; doesn’t do much harm. Then they inbreed those pups together, to get a better result than Jake and Kira. Stage 2; not much harm, slight problems only. Then they inbreed those pups again together, resulting in FAR better result. Stage 3; these dogs now appear with frequent sprained ankles and weak bones. After being inbred yet AGAIN, these offspring are 5x better, but 5x weaker, too than Jake and Kira. Stage 4; these dogs appear with arthritis and hip dysplasia, with weak bones.

So that’s what happens, producing top pieces and ending up with weaker dogs, no matter how good looking they are.

Now time for a little bit in general about this breed:

BREED REGISTERED NAME

You’ve probably heard about people saying, for example, “I own a cuddly GSD”, or “My big BAD (why is it bad IDK) GSD is like….”. And with that caption, there actually is a picture of a German Shepherd. Now you must be wondering(could be wondering) that German Shepherd makes up, GS, no D anywhere. Or y’all are not nearly as dumb as I am :P. Anyway, back to topic. Well, if you were thinking that, then here’s the official answer. The breed’s registered name is German Shepherd Dog. Thus, it is often abbreviated as GSD, German Shepherd Dog. I found this quite weird, because no other breed that I’m aware of goes with the registered name with “dog” at the end. For example, Rottweiler (maybe I’ll do a breed post on them :D), isn’t registered with the name Rottweiler Dog, it’s just rottweiler. Or Doberman Pinschers , or simply Doberman, they aren’t with the registered name Doberman Pinscher Dog, they’re just plain Doberman Pinschers. But anyway, who cares? 😀

BREED SPECS

The German Shepherd falls under the category of a large dog, both by weight and by size. They have got long fur, which could vary little bit by dog; some dogs tend to have slightly shorter fur, and some slightly longer. Overall, they tend to have long fur and they shed loads, so frequent grooming is required. Typically kept outdoors for guarding, grooming once a day should keep their shedding under control. However, if you keep your GSD indoors, and only groom him once in twenty-four hours, as you would if he was outdoors, you could be living in a PILE of dog hair, so more frequent grooming will be required.

Average weight: Females: around 22-32 KG, and males: around 30 – 40KGs. That could categorized heavy! Average height: Females: 55-60 CM, and males: 60-65 CM. They stand tall, don’t they! Average lifespan: the typical healthy GSD has an average lifespan of around 9-13 years. Temperament: They are typically: Watchful, Alert, curious, Obedient, loyal, confident, courageous and intelligent. They are also very Brave dogs, and will do pretty much anything in order to please and protect their master. Due to their bravery and strength, and their strong will to please, they are one of the most common police dogs through out the world. Origin: this breeds origin is Germany, which you probably already knew.

So that is the GSD! I did put all that I know about them, and do something for me, comment below what breed would you guys like next, and also, what should be the next animal I start on? Lemme know in the comments.

Bye, see ya next time!
